Street Fighter, Tekken Crossovers Announced at SDCC

Via Kotaku: there’s Street Fighter in your Tekken, and Tekken in your Street Fighter. Capcom and Namco have jointly announced at the San Diego Comic Convention that they will be releasing two crossover games for each of their iconic fight game franchises.

Capcom ‘s Street Fighter X Tekken will feature SF IV’s game play mechanics, including fireballs, air juggles, and other special moves. In contrast, Tekken x Street Fighter will feature more hand-to-hand and grapple based fighting in a 3D environment.

Both games are currently in development, and gamers may not see either titles for several months.

New SSW Vocaloid “Lily” Announced

After being taken for a ride by jokesters on Japanese message board 2Chan, Vocaloid fans are again treated to a “new release” announcement. This time genuine, SSW’s Internet has released the character design for Vocaloid Lily — a new female voice bank with a strong rock music slant.

Lily will be voiced by Masuda Yuuri of rap-rock-techno band m.o.v.e., and its anime-only alter-ego anim.o.v.e. — famous all over the world for being the group behind Initial D theme songs “Around the World”, “Break In2 The Nite”, “Gamble Ramble”, “Blast My Desire” and “DOGFIGHT”.

SSW is a Vocaloid voice package producer second only in popularity to Crypton Future Media (creators of Hatsune Miku). SSW first came to fore with the release of GACKPOID, using the voice of Japanese pop star GACKT, and its subsequent release MEGPOID, featuring voice actress and idol singer Nakajima Megumi of Macross Frontier fame.

Evangelionization: CBCP Turns to Game Cathechism

In an article from The Philippine Star, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines has turned to gaming to promote catechism in the Philippines.

The role-playing game, entitled “Paolo’s Journey”, has been released recently by the CBCP. In “Paolo’s Journey”, the player assumes the role of Paolo, who attempts to rescue his kitten from the village well and is thrust into an adventure. To gain levels, the player must answer trivia questions regarding the Bible and its teachings.

The game has been distributed for free in several archdioceses, and will also be available for PhP 200 in specialty Catholic bookstores and other outlets. This is the second most unusual and uncharacteristic attempt by the CBCP to reinforce Catholic teachings on the Filipino youth. The first came early last year when the CBCP offered bible story mobile downloads with anime-style illustrations. It is unknown how well the initial offering fared with young mobile phone users.

2Ch Trolls the Internet with “New Vocaloid”

Via Sankaku Complex (link NSFW): regulars on infamous Japanese message board 2Chan faked the release of a “new Vocaloid” to troll Crypton fans all over the Internet.

First announced via its “official website” Crvipton, Sukone Tei is the “newest Vocaloid” to join other Crypton talents Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, Kaito and Meiko, and Megurine Luka.

Tei offers “a clear and sweet” vocal range different from all the current Vocaloids, which matches her “clear and sweet” personality.

However, a closer inspection reveals Sukone Tei’s real nature: she is scarily obsessed with Len, and plans to murder Miku at the slightest opportunity. Her profiles reads: “I would like to be the main character so I will dispose of Hatsune Miku as soon as I can.”

“I love love love love love love love love love Kagamine Len. I like to make him cakes but it’s difficult and I fail all the time. But that’s okay since I love love love love love love love love love him so much that I would gladly cut off my own right hand for him. And he will definitely love me back.”, she continues.

The funny thing about Tei is that several overseas Vocaloid fans bought the whole thing hook, line, and sinker. I guess fans should learn Japanese if they don’t want to be taken in by those jokers at 2Ch :D

From the world of Japanese flash games comes a cute little time management game that will tickle your fancy.

In Neko no Curry-ya-san (literally “The Cat Curry Shop”), you help twin-tail girl Nike and fat cat Johnny, serve the cafe’s regulars of bunnies, bears, and squirrels.

The game works on the familiar Diner Dash mechanic, where you take orders, serve food, and clean up tables.
