About
The Site
magnetic-rose.net is an interactive news and general information site dedicated to all things J-pop for Philippine fans — manga, anime, music, gaming, cosplay, toys, and BL. We are currently on version 4.01 starting the 20th of January 2010 following a front-end face-lift and streamlining of site content.
The blog was named after a short film also entitled “Magnetic Rose“. It was part of an anthology called “Memories” by renowned anime auteur Otomo Katsuhiro. “Magnetic Rose” was written by Otomo, adapted for the screen by Kon Satoshi, and directed by Morimoto Kōji. Kanno Yoko provided the musical score while Maria Callas’ performance of “Un bel dì, vedremo” was the signature vocal piece.
magnetic-rose.net is the Official Philippine Affiliate to Anime Festival Asia 09. AFA09 is the largest anime, cosplay, and gaming convention in the South East Asian region. AFA09 was held on the 21st and 22nd of November 2009 at Singapore’s Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
magnetic-rose.net is also the Philippine Blog Awards 2009 Winner for the Culture & Arts Category. magnetic-rose.net has also been shortlisted in the Reader’s Choice Award, where it finished in fourth place from a field of seventeen.
Rochelle (magnetic_rose) has been into anime for thirteen years now. She started blogging on LiveJournal in November 2001 to distract herself from the loneliness and isolation of college life in Tokyo.
These days, Rochelle can be found mostly behind two giant flat-panel monitors balancing accounting books for a European multinational, or behind two much smaller laptop computers updating this site.
Rochelle also wrote for the MTV Asia Gadgets and Games Blog, where she was on a six-month assignment after winning a South East Asia-wide competition. She was the only Filipino in the group of four official bloggers.
Rochelle likes Luna Sea, Final Fantasy VII, Initial D, Macross Frontier, Pinky:St., Vocaloid 2, and OS-Tan. She holds a Level 2 Japanese Language Proficiency Certificate, and plans to take up Spanish. She also has a thing for Rafael Nadal, Liverpool FC, and 2D men in military uniforms.
