AFA 09 Regional Cosplay Championships

Anime Festival Asia 09 is pleased to announce that it is now accepting entries to the first ever Regional Cosplay Championships! Cosplay pairs representing Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and other South East Asian nations will be sponsored by the organizers of AFA09 to compete in the Grand Finals at Suntec City, Singapore.
The AFA 09 Regional Cosplay Championships will be open to cosplay pairs of all ages. All costumes must be from Japanese anime, manga, or video games; entries from Western/other comics, movies, or novels are officially disqualified. All pairs are required to give a five-minute skit or performance at the main event. Costumes or performances deemed inapporpriate may be barred from participating in the competition.
Online Submission Checklist• Name/team name plus name of group members
• Title of the Anime/Manga/Game they are Cosplaying from
• Name and gender of character(s) they are Cosplaying
• Is the costume homemade, tailored or store-bought?
• A picture of the character for each group member (electronically). This will be used to make the PowerPoint shown during the presentation
• An “in progress” photo of the costume being made for each group member, with the person in the photo (electronically)
• Answer to the cosplay profile questions
• A brief description of the performance including any unexpected or surprising elements.Sample Entry

• Title of the Anime/Manga/Game they are Cosplaying from: Macross Frontier

• A picture of the character (as an attachment).
• An “in progress” photo of the costume being made, with the person in the photo (as an attachment)• Name of Cosplayer: Maria dela Cruz
• Nationality: Filipino
• Current country of residence: Philippines
• Representative Country: Philippines
• Title of the Anime/Manga/Game they are Cosplaying from: Macross Frontier
• Name and gender of character they are Cosplaying: Sheryl Nome (F)
• A picture of the character (as an attachment).
• An “in progress” photo of the costume being made, with the person in the photo (as an attachment)
Applications may be submitted through Danny Choo’s Figure FM Portal. Online registration will close on 8th October 2009 at 12:00 Midnight Japan / 11:00 PM Philippines. Successful applicants will be notified no later than three weeks after the close of online registrations if they have qualified to compete in the Cosplay Championships at AFA 09.

just wondering, will the be a limit to the size of the costume one can enter?

there is no limit to the size of the costume, but please bear in mind that you can only have one assistant from the AFA staff to help you with your onstage performance. also, also keep in mind that you have to transport your costume to singapore so there will be size and weight constraints imposed by airlines. good luck!

if you win the official philippine representative slot, yes.

i’m not sure, i’ll have to ask — although i think it is recommended that the characters you are cosplaying be from the same anime, or at least from the same universe (GUNDAM, MACROSS, etc.).

Heyy do they just select the applicants as finalists if they can compete on stage or just select all cosplay teams that has participated on the compettition? I mean at least most..

hi there — they just select one pair from each country (except singapore, who can field two entries) out of all the applications sent, to go onstage and compete in the finals. hope this clears up the confusion :)

Wish I could :( But I don’t have the courage, just starting to cosplay this year. I want to be able to meet Pinoys in the con though!
