The Japan Foundation Manila is once again proud to present the Eiga Sai Japanese Film Festival. The 2009 Eiga Si will kick off with a Special Invitational screening of Always San-chome no Yuhi on the 2nd of July 2009 at the Shangri-La Mall Cineplex, Cinema 3.
A total of eight contemporary Japanese films will be shown, including Kiraware Matsuko no Issho, Kamome Shokudo, Ashita no Kioku, Itsuka Dokushosuru Hi, Futari Biyori, Tony Takitani, and the animated feature Mind Game.
Mind Game is based on the comic by Nishi Robin, adapted for the screen and directed by Yuasa Masaaki. Animation was done mainly by Morimoto Kouji and Studio 4°C. Mind Game revolves around the life of Nishi, a drifter with dreams of becoming a comic book artist, but is instead embroiled in the Yakuza-laced family affairs of his childhood crush Myon.
Films will be screened at the Shangri-La Mall Cinema 3 from 2nd to 12th July, and at the UP Film Institute from 14th to 20th August. 2009 Eiga Sai will also have provincial screenings at the Gaisano South City Mall in Davao City, the Ayala Center in Cebu City, and the Baguio Center Mall in Baguio City at later dates.
All screenings are open to the public except for Special Invitationals. Admission will be free. Films will be shown with English subtitles. For a complete list of screenings, please visit the JFM website.
