Victorian Valentine II Event Report

February 22nd, 2009  |  Published in Event Reports  |  7 Comments

Victorian Valentine II was held last 21st February at the McKinley Hill Information Centre, Fort Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. It is one of the more unique events on the anime convention circuit, featuring period costumes and a formal ball. Gothic Lolita Fashion and Renaissance, Edwardian and Victorian Costume enthusiasts came together for a night of genteel entertainment and old-fashioned romance.

Several guests gamely took up the challenge of coming in period costume, arriving in day dresses and evening gowns with designs that could have walked straight out of a Victorian fashion catalogue. The gentlemen also exerted commendable effort, donning suit coats and cravats instead of their usual hoodies and Chuck Taylors. Some of our favorites were the matched pair of Cat and Chase from One Free Kiss.

While the event was undoubtedly a success — with over one hundred guests in attendance, the event was not without drama of the unflattering kind. Staff have complained that some of their co-organizers were remiss in their responsibilities, simply standing around doing nothing instead of attending to their assigned duties.

Some guests have also voiced concerns with the flow of events leaving a lot to be desired, with long lulls occurring between the scheduled activities. Lastly, it has been suggested that access to the food and beverage concessionaire be improved, since it was very inconvenient to walk out to a dark parking lot in high heels and a long train.

Once again, we’d like to offer our congratulations to the organizers of VV, and we’re looking forward to more of your events.

Indeed it was a visually-wonderful event. I share some of these sentiments (especially the concessionaire issue), but enjoyed it nonetheless with my friends. :)
