LUNA SEA God Bless You ~One Night Dejavu~ Event Report

February 14th, 2009  |  Published in Event Reports

For me, this gig was ten years in the making. I had first gotten into LUNA SEA in 1997 as a college freshman at the University of the Philippines. I swore I was going to see them live one day, so I worked on my political science and Japanese courses.

Unfortunately, by the time I had secured my scholarship and was winging my way to Tokyo, LUNA SEA has already broken up. Distraught, I consoled myself with watching individual lives by their former members J and INORAN. But fans of the band will tell you, it’s just not the same.

Fast forward to December 2007, and friends from Japan, Singapore, and the United States were frantically e-mailing each other to secure tickets to their one-night reunion concert. Realizing that this was my last chance to see Ryuichi, Sugizo, J, Inoran, and Shinya on the same stage, I dropped everything and joined the fray.

Thanks to some extraordinary effort by members of the close-knit international LUNA SEA community, a number of lucky girls were able to score tickets — and one of those lucky girls was me. As I made my way to my C-block seat (yes – that close to the front!), it didn’t hit me that I was there to see them until the lights dimmed and the band started to play.

The live was beyond extraordinary — there were so many fans even after the band had broken up for years. The sound of ten thousand people clapping and cheering in unison brought tears to my eyes. LUNA SEA themselves were in fine form; they sang so many of their hits that I’d never thought I’d ever hear live.

Thanks to Maya so much for helping with the tickets — it would never have been possible without you. It was great to finally meet Eric and Allison and Myrrh — you guys rock so hard. Hugs and kisses to Evon — otsukaresan, and hope to see you again real soon! And finally Nora — it was so nice to meet you in the flesh after all these years.
